What is a sleep study?
Sleep studies (polysomnography) are a series of test that monitor and record what happens to your body when you sleep. A sleep study records a variety of information including the brain’s electrical activity, heart rate and breathing. This information including the brain’s electrical activity, muscle activity, heart rate and breathing. This information can help your Physician diagnose or rule out a sleep disorder.

How does a sleep study work?

In your own comfortable room while you watch cable television or listen to music small wires will be applied to you and arranged to allow you to sleep as normal in your comfortable bed. We suggest that you bring loose comfortable sleeping attire. Monitoring is conducted while you sleep. Normal sleep times are encouraged, however most studies end between 5:30 and 6:30 am. Continental Breakfast and lunch for day studies are just one of the many amenities. Your results will be reviewed and interpreted by an accredited Sleep Specialist and in most cases it’s delivered to your physician within 72 hours.

What is the treatment?
Successful treatment can be life changing for you and your bed partner. Just as the various sleep disorders vary from person to person patient specific education will be provided. The most common therapy for sleep disordered breathing is Positive airway therapy. Should this therapy be ordered each patient is fitted with the most comfortable airway system prior to beginning the study, to help ensure a successful therapeutic outcome and a one night study. Oral appliances and medication are also lines of defense in the treatment of sleep disorders & recommendations can be made by our Sleep Specialists on those that may benefit you.
